Hyderabad, Apr 5: The Hyderabad police on Monday, Apr 5, arrived at the residence of tennis ace Sania Mirza to question Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik following a cheating case lodged by Ayesha Siddiqui, who claimed to be his first wife.

Immigration authorities have also been alerted by the police about the criminal complaint lodged against the cricketer. The complaint could prevent Malik's exit from India.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan said Malik has been charged of harassment, cheating to marry another girl and criminal intimidation including threats to Ayesha to keep quiet.

Police said that a case has been registered against Malik under Sections 420 (cheating), 498-A (dowry harassment) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC, adding that investigation into the complaint will be conducted after verification.

“The Banjara Hills police have received a complaint by Ayesha Siddiqui against Shoaib Malik. We have registered a case against Shoaib. Now we will take legal opinion quickly before taking further action,” Additional Commissioner of Police (co-ordination), Dwarka Thirumala Rao said.

Citing about the legal complications in the case since Malik is a Pakistani national, Rao said that they" will have to examine whether a foreigner committing an offence on a foreign soil comes under the purview of IPC or not."

“The legal opinion will be taken quickly and we will proceed further as the marriage is on April 15,” he added.

On Saturday, Apr 3, Malik, who came to visit Sania, admitted to his marriage with Ayesha, but said that he was cheated into marrying her.

Hyderabad, Apr 4: Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik on Sunday, Apr 4, made it clear that his wedding to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza would be held on Apr 15.

Addressing a press conference, he said, Sania Mirza will continue to play for India after the wedding and his family would always support her.

"She (Sania) will play tennis till the time she wants to and my family will continue to support her. She will continue to play for India," Malik Said.

Shoiab declined to comment on his alleged earlier marriage with a city girl, Ayesha Siddiqui.

Shoiab said, "It is a legal thing and my lawyer will answer." He, however, issued a pres release explaining his side of the story.

Shoiab has hired Delhi based lawyer Ramesh Gupta after Ayesha Siddiqui's family slapped a legal notice on him accusing him of fraud and harassment.

Ayesha's family alleges that Shoaib married her over phone but dumped her later due to her weight problems.

Shoaib, however, insists that it was the Siddiquis who cheated him.

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has gotten engaged to former Pakistan cricket captain, Shoaib Malik and they might tie the knot next month, claimed a television channel on Monday. According to reports, the two sporting superstars have gotten engaged and their marriage would take place in April. Incidentally, Shoaib was earlier accused of marrying another Hyderabadi girl, Ayesha Siddiqui, in 2002 over the phone even though the cricketer said that he was merely engaged to her. Ayesha’s father had also threatened to sue Malik for jilting the girl and not giving her a divorce. Shoaib’s mother met Sania’s parents in India and accepted her as her future daughter-in-law. The ‘Valima’ reception is expected to be held in Lahore on April 16 or 17. The reports added that Sania and Shoaib fell in love some six-and-half months ago and it can be the reason for the breaking up of Sania’s engagement with her childhood friend Sohrab Mirza.
